A Little Curiosity Can Go a Long Way: Celebrating National STEM Day

An interest in engineering can begin with something simple: building with blocks, designing a bridge for a school project, or wondering how something works.

National STEM Day, celebrated November 8, encourages young people to explore science, technology, engineering, and math. These subjects help students develop creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills while discovering possibilities for their future.

What Sparks an Interest in Engineering?

We asked a few of our interns what sparked their interest in engineering. From childhood building toys and a classroom bridge project to encouragement from a teacher or family member, their stories highlight the different paths that led them to the field.

Start Exploring with Parker and Penny

For young learners discovering their own interests, Palmer Engineering’s Discover webpage offers activities that introduce engineering, surveying, and safety.

Join our characters, Parker and Penny, for a roundabout adventure, explore printable activity books and coloring pages, or try a hands-on engineering tower challenge. These resources give families and educators simple ways to encourage curiosity at home or in the classroom.
