Palmer Engineering Designs Elizabethtown’s First City-Funded Roundabout

The City of Elizabethtown, KY has officially opened its first city-funded roundabout at the intersection of Veteran's Way and Towne Drive, marking an exciting milestone in the community's ongoing investment in a safer and more efficient transportation infrastructure.

Palmer Engineering is proud to have led the design of this project, helping bring a modern traffic solution to one of the city's growing corridors. The beautifully landscaped roundabout not only enhances the appearance of the intersection but also improves safety and traffic flow for motorists.

Roundabouts have consistently been shown to reduce crashes while improving roadway efficiency. According to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 4, the 11 roundabouts installed throughout Hardin County over the past several years have produced impressive results:

31% reduction in total crashes
81% reduction in injury crashes
90% reduction in fatal crashes
Reduced traffic delays and improved traffic flow

Unlike traditional signalized intersections, roundabouts keep traffic moving continuously, reducing stop-and-go congestion while minimizing the types of collisions most likely to cause serious injuries. The result is a safer, more efficient experience for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians alike.
