Palmer Engineering Intern Represents UK at ASABE Midwest Regional Rally
Last week, Natalie Willett, an intern in Palmer Engineering’s Lexington office and Secretary of the University of Kentucky ASABE Student Branch, represented UK at the Midwest Regional Rally (MRR) hosted by Purdue University.
The Midwest Regional Rally brings together students and professionals from across the region to collaborate, exchange ideas, and explore current research and projects in agricultural and biological engineering. As Secretary of the UK chapter, Natalie has prioritized strengthening regional partnerships and supporting continued chapter growth.
Exploring Innovation and Restoration Efforts
During the rally, attendees participated in several on- and off-campus tours highlighting environmental restoration and research initiatives.
At the Wabash River Enhancement Corporation, the group explored the new Oak Savannah restoration project, which includes plans for a future ADA-accessible path around the savannah and a hiking trail that will connect to the Wabash River. The project demonstrates a thoughtful balance of ecological restoration, accessibility, and community engagement.
Participants also visited the National Soil Erosion Research Laboratory, where they learned about the lab’s rain simulator research and other ongoing projects conducted in partnership with the USDA. The work being done at the laboratory plays a critical role in advancing soil conservation practices and improving water quality outcomes nationwide.
Looking Ahead to 2027
The University of Kentucky has been selected to host the 2027 ASABE Midwest Regional Rally in Lexington. This will be a great opportunity to showcase the incredible work happening across the Bluegrass region.
We’re proud to see our interns actively engaged in professional organizations and contributing to meaningful conversations that shape the future of engineering and environmental stewardship.
