Palmer Team Visits Mountain Parkway Construction Site
Recently, members of the Palmer Engineering team visited the Mt. Parkway construction site in Eastern Kentucky to see firsthand the significant progress being made on this transformative infrastructure project.
The Magoffin-Floyd segment is the final 13-mile section of the Mountain Parkway and will extend the corridor east from Salyersville to Prestonsburg, Kentucky. It is the longest of all the project segments and the only section constructing an entirely new roadway.
Construction of this segment includes several key elements designed to improve safety, reduce congestion, and support efficient traffic flow, including:
13 miles of new four-lane highway
Multiple new bridge structures over waterways and existing roads
A modern roundabout at the eastern terminus in Prestonsburg
An estimated 30 million cubic yards of excavation
During the visit, our team observed ongoing construction activities—including controlled blasting—and gained a deeper appreciation for the scale, coordination, and expertise required to move a project of this magnitude forward.
The Mountain Parkway expansion represents a major investment in Kentucky’s transportation infrastructure, improving connectivity, supporting economic development, and enhancing safety for the communities it serves.
We appreciate Bizzack Construction for hosting our group and for the opportunity to witness the impressive progress up close.
