SR 435 and SR 729 Roundabout

FAYETTE COUNTY, OH

TRANSPORTATION

Palmer Engineering partnered with the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) and the John R. Jurgensen Company to design and build the FAY-435-1.52 (PID 117955) project—an innovative, high-speed, multi-lane roundabout with bypass lanes at SR 435 and SR 729 in Fayette County, Ohio.

This critical capacity upgrade is strategically located to support traffic growth associated with the new Honda/LG Energy Solution EV battery plant, while improving safety and keeping people and freight moving efficiently through the corridor.

Palmer Engineering’s role in this project reflects our commitment to helping transportation agencies deliver safe, future-ready infrastructure that supports evolving mobility and economic needs.

About the Project

  • Overview

Converted intersection into a high-capacity, multi-lane roundabout designed for faster, more efficient traffic movement

Added bypass lanes to accommodate dominant through movements and improve overall operational performance

Enhanced safety by reducing conflict points and improving traffic flow consistency at the SR 435/SR 729 junction

Improved interchange operations with additional capacity upgrades at the SR 435/I-71 connection

Installed new traffic signals to optimize traffic control at nearby intersections and support future growth

  • Highlights

Construction launched in April 2024 with early water and sanitary sewer relocations

Roundabout opened to traffic by November 2024, significantly ahead of seasonal weather limitations

Full corridor upgrades at the SR 435/I-71 interchange were completed in early 2025

Supports major growth associated with the new Honda/LG EV battery plant, Amazon Data Center, and other development slated for the Mid-West Mega Commerce Center (M2C2). M2C2 is the State of Ohio’s largest certified Job Ready Site.

  • Impact

Supports economic expansion by improving access to one of Ohio’s most significant new industrial investments

Enhances regional mobility with smoother, safer operations at a previously congested intersection

Increases corridor capacity through multi-lane design, bypass lanes, and upgraded interchange operations

Improves safety by reducing angle and rear-end crash risks with modern roundabout geometry

Future-proofs the network for anticipated population and freight growth in the region
