Behind the Scenes: Inspecting the Simon Kenton Memorial Bridge
During the week of August 24-28, 2026, members of the Palmer Engineering team joined HDR in Maysville, Kentucky, to complete a specialized inspection of critical steel components on the Simon Kenton Memorial Bridge.
With the bridge currently closed for a major rehabilitation project, the team was able to take advantage of the existing closure to perform the inspection. Using climbing gear, lifts, and specialized equipment, inspectors accessed structural components throughout the bridge for an up-close evaluation.
The Simon Kenton Memorial Bridge has been a familiar part of the Maysville landscape for nearly a century. Opened in 1931, the historic suspension bridge crosses the Ohio River, connecting Maysville, Kentucky, with Aberdeen, Ohio.
The bridge is currently undergoing a significant rehabilitation project that includes the replacement of all 136 suspender cables, concrete repairs, and other improvements. The bridge is expected to remain closed during the rehabilitation work.
