National Public Works Week Spotlight: The Plainview Trunk Sewer Project

During National Public Works Week 2026, we are recognizing the critical infrastructure projects that often go unseen but play a vital role in protecting public health and supporting thriving communities.

One such project is the Plainview Trunk Sewer project, completed for the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government as part of the federal consent decree program, involved upsizing undersized sanitary sewer pipes along Plainview Drive and Tanner Court, including a bore beneath New Circle Road connecting to Lakeshore Drive. The Lexington, KY corridor had experienced sanitary sewer overflows due to aging and undersized infrastructure in a heavily developed urban area.

Construction began last summer, and crews are now wrapping up punch list items and final stabilization. While projects like these may be hidden beneath our streets and backyards, their impact is felt every day through safer, more reliable infrastructure and improved environmental protection.
