Palmer Team Volunteers at UK’s Summer Engineering Exploration Kamp

Members of the Palmer Engineering team recently had the opportunity to volunteer at the University of Kentucky’s Summer Engineering Exploration Kamp (SEEK), a program designed for rising high school seniors interested in exploring careers in engineering.

On July 30, Victoria Cambron, Jon Murrin, PE, Ethan Miller, Will Graves, and Ryan Damon, PE joined Danny Francis and University of Kentucky students to guide SEEK participants through hands-on activities in the FPAT lab. The students performed load tests on mortar beams and wooden towers and bridges while learning about structural design, how beams function, and what to expect during load testing.

The students were engaged throughout the experience, asking thoughtful questions and enthusiastically competing to see which team’s creation could support the greatest load. Team Footer took the top spot in the reinforced beam competition, with its beam supporting an impressive maximum load of more than six tons!

The camp provided an excellent opportunity to connect with the next generation of problem solvers and innovators. Palmer Engineering is proud to support programs like SEEK that inspire young people to pursue careers in engineering and continue the tradition of building strong, resilient communities.
