A Look at Progress on the Wendell H. Ford Regional Airport Access Road

A beautiful day in Perry County, Kentucky provided the perfect opportunity to see the Wendell H. Ford Regional Airport Access Road project taking shape. Team members from Palmer Engineering, Bizzack Construction, and Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 10 recently gathered on-site for a firsthand look at construction progress.

The project will create a new connection between KY 15 and the airport, replacing an existing route that is narrow, winding, and prone to slips and breaks. The new roadway will provide a wider, less steep route with paved shoulders, improving safety and reliability for those traveling to and from the airport. A roundabout at the top of the mountain—the first in Perry County—will be another notable addition.

Expected to be completed in August 2027, the new roadway will provide a safer, more reliable connection to the airport and improve access to the nearby Coalfields Industrial Park, helping support businesses and future economic development in the region.

It’s exciting to see the progress being made, and we appreciate the hard work of everyone helping bring this important project to life!
