When a Horse Meets a Total Station: A Surveying Coloring Sheet for National Surveyors Week
As we gear up for National Surveyors Week next week, we’re working on some fun and educational materials to share. Here’s a sneak peek at one of them — a coloring and activity sheet inspired by the time a curious horse decided to check out a surveyor’s total station in the field.

The majority of surveying is done outdoors, and sometimes the local wildlife — or livestock — gets just as curious about the equipment as people do. This coloring sheet gives kids a chance to see one of the most important tools surveyors use while adding their own creative touch to the scene.
In the activity, students can color the illustration and learn about the total station, a tool surveyors use to measure distances and angles to help map the land and place features like fences in the correct location.
Download the sheet by using the button above or clicking on the image below and get ready to celebrate National Surveyors Week by learning a little more about the work surveyors do every day.
Stay tuned — we’ll be sharing more surveying-themed activities soon as part of our Exploring Surveying resources.
